As a member or coach of the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club, you are required to read and observe the following Code of Conduct.

The objectives of the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club are:

  1. To support the aims, ideals and principles of the triathlon movement and to ensure the continued inclusion of Triathlon locally and within the global triathlon sport in general;
  2. To promote and generally advance the sport of triathlon, and its related other multi-sports;
  3. To aid the interests and well-being of the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club and its members;
  4. To develop a friendly and supportive collaboration by all organizations, their leaders and athletes who participate in sport, thus contributing to the creation of a more peaceful community;
  5. To host club activities and events without tolerance of discrimination of country or person on grounds of race, religion, sex, politics or any other source of discrimination.

Members Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct is modeled on the "Conduct of Competitors" section of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Competition Rules – 2010. All members/athletes of the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club are expected, as a condition of membership, to observe this Code whether in competition or training. Violation of the Code may lead to termination of the member's membership without reimbursement in whole or in part.

In addition, all members taking on the responsibility of coaching agree to observe the Coaches' Code of Conduct.

Members/Athletes have a responsibility to:

  1. Practice good sportsmanship at all times.
  2. Be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.
  3. Obey traffic regulations and instructions from club coaches and race officials.
  4. Treat other members, coaches, competitors, race officials, volunteers, and spectators with respect and courtesy.
  5. Avoid the use of abusive language.
  6. Refrain from harassing any individual or engaging in any unwelcome visual, verbal, or physical conduct; if harassment by others is observed, take appropriate intervening action by notifying the coach and/or club executive.
  7. Consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image of the sport and of the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club.

In competitive races, members/athletes have a responsibility to:

  1. Understand the ITU Competition Rules.
  2. If they violate the rules knowingly, report the violation to a race official, and if necessary retire promptly from the competition.
  3. Inform race officials after withdrawing from a race for any reason.

Coaches Code of Conduct

The athlete/coach relationship is a privileged one, and coaches must be careful not to abuse it. Coaches must recognize that they are channels for transmitting the values and goals of the sports of triathlon and duathlon as well as those of the Club. How an athlete regards the sport and the Club is often dependent on the behaviour of the coach. This Code of Conduct, modeled on that developed by the Coaching Association of BC and adopted by BC Athletics, is intended to aid coaches in establishing a high standard for all coaches in the Squamish Titans Multi Sport Club.

Individuals appointed by the Club as coaches or bike/run/swim leaders (for this document all are called "coaches") are advised that by taking on this responsibility they are agreeing to adhere to this policy.

Coaches have a responsibility to:

  1. Consider the safety of the athletes with whom they work.
  2. Educate athletes as to their responsibilities in contributing to a safe environment.
  3. Be prepared to do the job assigned to them, to the best of their ability.
  4. Treat everyone fairly within the context of athletics, regardless of gender, place of origin, color, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
  5. Refrain from harassing any individual or engaging in any unwelcome visual, verbal, or physical conduct; if harassment by others is observed, take appropriate intervening action.
  6. Direct comments or criticism at the performance rather than the athlete.
  7. Consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image of the sport and the practice of coaching. This includes:
    • Refraining from public criticism of fellow coaches
    • Abstaining from tobacco products while coaching
    • Abstaining from alcoholic beverages while coaching
    • Never condoning the use of performance enhancing drugs or other banned substances or methods
    • Refraining from the use of profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language while coaching
  8. Consider the suitability of the activity being undertaken relative to the age, experience, ability, and fitness level of the athletes.
  9. Regularly seek ways of increasing their own development and self-awareness as a coach.
  10. Treat fellow coaches, Club members, race officials, and the general public with due respect; and encourage others to act accordingly. Actively encourage athletes to observe and uphold the rules of the sport and the spirit of those rules.
